Emailing your 45 Second Commercial

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009 by lacrews

If you’ve ever been to formal networking group’s regular meeting, you’ve probably heard of a 45 second commercial.   Each person takes 30 – 60 seconds to tell everyone who they are, what they do, and what their clients look like.  Using the same concept, try sending an email version to your closest networking partners and request that they send theirs in return.

Since this is a close networking partner, you shouldn’t need to explain who you are and what you do but you do need to be specific.  Try using this model.

I’m looking for [businesses or people] who have this specific [problem, pain, struggle, issue, or other attribute of your ideal customer].  This week, I’m specifically looking for this [type of business or person].  Also, I’m looking for an introduction to [a specific person, the owner of x business].

Note: Limit this to no more than 3 attributes. You can vary the attributes with each email.

Here’s a real example:

Subject: This Week

Here’s what I’m hunting this week.

As always, I’m looking for any business owners who are frustrated with QuickBooks.  This week, I’m specifically focusing Landscaping Companies.  Do you know anyone who owns a Landscaping Company?  Also, I’d like an introduction to Mark Murphy.  He’s an attorney in Fredericksburg.

Let me know what you’re hunting.
